Foot pain is very common among elders and athletes. One of the leading causes of foot pain is Plantar Fasciitis. Once foot pain advances, treatment would be difficult and could lead to severe conditions. Foot pain should not be ignored. Here are some tips to prevent foot pain due to plantar fasciitis.

  • Relax you ankles and calves when you are walking, running, sitting, or standing. You should prevent too much tension on your legs and feet because it pulls the plantar fascia, the ligament at the bottom of the feet.
  • When walking or running, land evenly on the middle of your foot instead of the heel. This keeps the bottom of the feet relaxed and reduces the impact.
  • If you are an athlete, specifically a runner, run on soft surfaces when training.
  • Wear proper-fitting shoes. Avoid shoes with stiff soles and poor arch support
  • Avoid walking barefoot. This activity creates too much tension on the bottoms of the feet and there is no support under the arch of the feet.
  • If you are obese or overweight, it is recommended to lose some weight to decrease pressure onto the feet.
  • Follow exercises and stretches that strengthen the plantar tendon. Here are some:
    • Slow tennis ball roll
    • Marble pick-up
    • Calf stretches
